Non Stop Dosti

Composed and recorded this song about 8 years ago- in 2001.

The story is this-

I was a young executive in a marketing firm trying to evangelize Digital and Integrated Marketing to brands.

One such brand was a Liquor company launching a new product targeted at Younger adults with the tagline “Non Stop Dosti“- or Non Stop friendship.

Liqour advertising was (and still is) restrictive in India, though many brands used surrogate methods (debatable but just narrating the state of affairs at the time) to advertise their brands.

You know- the ones where they sponsor a sporting or a fashion event and promote the event. Thereby getting a surrogate brand known to people.People, in turn know what this is all about :) and the brand message gets across.

My marketing brain and the musician nerve combined- and we suggested the brand to come up with a remixed album around friendship songs- with one original song in the lead.

To walk the extra mile, I actually composed a song (with the help of a second hand acoustic steel string I had at the time), wrote it down, got together with friend Sumit Kumar- who arranged the song (and sang the bridge part and played the guitar in the recording. Good ol’ Sumit)- and here it is- Non Stop dosti- the ad jingle. scratch.

The decision makers in the liquor company loved the song, but like many things, this was not to be.

On my recent visit to India, I met up with Sumit, and he surprised me by digging out this song.

Sharing it with the world- some 8 years later.

I could do this- all over again.

Here’s the song:
